How many access points will you need?

Access point hardware and cabling is the line item most often missed in budgets focused on label unit price. This tool gives a rough range; only a site survey produces the real number.

What set the number?

This number does not replace a site survey. The real count depends on store geometry, shelving material, signal measured with shelves full, and the chosen manufacturer's hardware. This tool is meant to start the budget conversation. Ask your supplier for a survey report with AP positions on a floor plan, and have it written into the contract that the unit price stays fixed if the count rises after the survey.

How the model works

Two requirements are computed and the larger is used: the APs needed to cover the area (protocol range with a density multiplier) and the APs needed to carry the labels (capacity per protocol). A high ceiling narrows the covered area. The result is given with a ±25% band, because claiming a tighter range without site measurement would not be honest.
